The causes of poor stitch formation and skipped stitches may also be the cause of thread breakage.
Particular causes:
- Poor thread (too old, over-bleached or dyed, not strong enough for the required work), confusion of needle- with bobbin thread
- Damage to sewing thread during sewing caused by a damaged needle, damaged hook, sharp parts or edges of thread handling parts
- Over-heating of needle, soiling of needle and hook
- Unfavourable combination of needle thickness with sewing parts and material
