May 22, 2015 - Fashion designers in training at the Hochschule Zwickau experimented with fleece materials and ultrasonic welding technology by PFAFF Industrial

First-semester fashion students of the Hochschule Zwickau (University of Applied Sciences Zwickau; Applied arts-faculty in Schneeberg, fashion design) experimented with three-dimensional textile structures. The human body served as the frame of the structure, shaping it and setting it in motion. The assignment included creative experimental study, the systematic finding of a shape as well as an examination of the features of the various materials. In addition to the thorough evaluation of basic principles of design regarding surface, outline and proportions the analysis of suitable joining technologies played a vital part. Tyvek®, a highly compressed fleece material usually designed for technical applications was used for this project.

By systematically arranging folded squares this model evokes the impression of a mask. It envelops the human body and distorts it. The structure’s clarity and stability are achieved by using Tyvek and joining it with weld seams.

The weld seams were created with the PFAFF 8310 ultrasonic welding machine. The design results were presented at a lavish fashion show during the TEXPROCESS 2015 in Frankfurt.
